With its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other biological activities, natural essential oils have broad potential in biopharmaceuticals. For example, tea tree essential oil is used as an antifungal agent, frankincense essential oil is used as an adjuvant treatment for arthritis, and peppermint essential oil is used to alleviate irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In addition, essential oils can serve as transdermal absorption enhancers or nanocarriers to enhance delivery efficiency.
